Velo coffee set for rebrand as it lands 500,000 bag Aldi deal

Cork coffee company Velo has landed a two-year 500,000 bag deal with Aldi, which will see them enter all 149 of the German retailer's stores in Ireland.

The deal will see the award-winning Velo Tandem Coffee revamped under Aldi’s premium Specially Selected range as Velo Specially Selected.

Rob Horgan, owner of Velo Coffee Roasters, said: "We are thrilled to see Velo Tandem moving to Aldi’s Specially Selected range and are immensely proud to have gone from an unknown coffee company in 2018 to now, only a short time later, seeing such strong sales and being included in Aldi’s Specially Selected range in stores nationwide.

Over the course of three years, the company saw their sales in Aldi rise by 135% and this investment from the supermarket chain will help stabilise their future.

With 14 staff currently employed by the coffee makers and having moved into a new warehouse in January 2021, complete with a brand-new state-of-the-art coffee roaster worth €310,000 which will double its bean-roasting capacity, work with the Aldi ensures the future of the company is going in the right direction.

Velo was supplying Aldi with one-third of their output between 2018 & 2021.

The rebranding of the award-winning coffee will also see the product displayed in new recyclable packaging across Aldi stores.

Aldi employs over 4650 people across its network in Ireland and has committed to €320m in the Irish grocery market over the next three years.

The German chain is currently working with 330 Irish suppliers.
