A&L Goodbody eyes growth with expanded Dublin HQ

A&L Goodbody

Law firm A&L Goodbody (ALG) will redevelop its existing offices at the IFSC in the Dublin docklands to facilitate its growth plans in the medium to long term as it transitions to hybrid working.

The company expects to add at least 50 new jobs this year, and its expanded headquarters, which will have 36% more space, will be designed to "promote a new way of agile working" that incorporates remote working and "fosters productivity, collaboration and innovation."

The redeveloped offices will cover 155,000 sq ft across two additional floors, landscaped terraces on the rooftop, and a new atrium, and the building will also include electric car charging stations, 200 bicycle parking spaces, 200 lockers, a fitness room and changing facilities.

In addition to the latest interior design and technology, ALG said the offices, which will be developed in partnership with commercial property investor IPUT, will also provide enhanced facilities and services to clients.

Development will commence in the summer and is expected to be completed in 2024, with ALG moving to nearby No. 3 Dublin Landings and the Exchange at the IFSC in the interim.

"Our office in the IFSC has been our home for over 20 years. In that time we have quadrupled in size. We now have the unique opportunity to rebuild our home for the future – for our clients, for our people and for the community we work in," Julian Yarr, ALG managing partner, said.

"It will facilitate our ambitious growth plans and will allow us to develop a new way of working – a more agile way of working – driving our business forward for the next 20 years."

A&L Goodbody is expanding its Dublin HQ to 155,000 sq ft.

Yarr added that it was important for ALG to remain in the North Wall area where it has a number of responsible business and pro bono initiatives and that it was essential for the company to have the most sustainable building possible with a net zero carbon rating.

Niall Gaffney, CEO of IPUT Real Estate, commented: “Our focus is to provide our occupiers with the most-sustainable real estate in the Irish market that meets the highest global standards for efficiency and environmental performance.

"In line with this ambition, we are delighted to work closely with A&L Goodbody to create Ireland’s most sustainable building at North Wall Quay. This new headquarters will set the new standard for low carbon office development in the market, while also significantly enhancing the workplace experience for A&L Goodbody employees.”

ALG currenty employs over 930 people, including 420 lawyers and 112 partners, working across six office locations (Dublin, Belfast, London, New York, San Francisco and Palo Alto), after increasing the number of lawyers on its books by 10% and appointing seven new partners last year

The firm said it was "very optimistic" about its growth opportunities in the years ahead, and the 50 new roles being filled in 2022 will include lawyers, project & program managers, business & data analysts, marketing and client development professionals and operational support.

The majority of additional roles will be in the Dublin office but ALG expects to see expansion in its Belfast and London offices as well. The company will also increase its annual trainee intake by 10% and will hire 150 trainees over the next three years.
