Egyptair is to commence a new year-round direct Dublin-Cairo service this summer.
The new route, which commences on June 2, will operate four times per week and will be Ireland’s first scheduled air service to and from Egypt.
Egypt’s national flag carrier’s hub is Cairo International Airport, from where the airline flies scheduled passenger and freight services to over 75 destinations in the Middle East, Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Americas.
Egyptair is a member of the Star Alliance Network and is celebrating its 90th anniversary this year, being the first airline in the Middle East and Africa to join IATA.
Dublin Airport managing director Vincent Harrison commented: “Cairo is one of the world’s great cities and we will be working closely with Egyptair to promote this new route, which will be welcomed by both business and leisure travellers.”
Captain Amr Nabil, the airline’s chairman and CEO, stated: “We expect potential traffic between the two countries connecting the customers to beyond Dublin and Cairo on Egyptair’s extended network.
“Egyptair is planning to operate its newest A320 NEO on the route, providing 16 seats in business class and 126 seats in economy class. The aircraft is equipped with WiFi connectivity and on-board mobile roaming service.”
“Dublin Airport represents a strategic hub for passengers flying to Egypt’s top leisure destinations, namely Sharm El-Sheikh, Hurghada, Luxor and Aswan.”
Khaled Sarwat, Egypt’s ambassador to Ireland, said: “The direct flights will strongly support the rates of trade and investments between the two states. This will lead to a massive improvement in the relations between Egypt and Ireland in all fields.”
Visitors from Egypt will have until January 2023 to sample the delights of the Guinness Bar Experience in Terminal 1 (pictured above), which was officially opened today.
This bar, which commenced trading at Christmas, is a once-off creation designed to a modern industrial look, and takes design inspiration from various sites across St. James’s Gate brewery.
It features a Guinness Gravity Bar inspired snug that offers visuals of the views they would experience if they were in the actual Guinness Storehouse in Dublin 8.
This Guinness bar experience is a joint collaboration between Diageo, The Wright Group and daa, the operators of Dublin Airport.
