ISG acquires majority stake in modular specialist ESS Group

UK construction giant ISG has acquired a majority shareholding in ESS Group.

Incorporated in 1989, ESS Group employs 280 staff and  specialises in delivering Modern Methods of Construction solutions for clients in the healthcare, commercial and public sectors.

With offices in Dublin and Manchester, ESS has more than trebled in size in the last five years. The group is comprised of four individual companies: ESS Modular, Spatial Initiative, Extraspace and Extraloo.

ESS chief executive Paul Tierney commented: “The ISG investment is a pivotal moment for the ESS Group, giving us a solid financial platform for our continued growth plans.  We passionately believe in a better way and have been working for the last 30 years to bring high quality offering to our clients.

In 2020 ESS acquired construction integration specialist Spatial Initiative.  

The ESS group parent company Extraspace Holdings had turnover of €97m in the year to June 2021 and booked an operating profit of €2m. Net worth was €5m ad total liabilities amounted to €43m.

The holding company principals are Paul Tierney, Ronan Smyth and Ray Doyle.

ISG had turnover of £2 billion in 2020 and booked a net profit of £4m.
