FBD Hotels & Resorts has taken over the running of the Killashee Hotel outside Naas after acquiring the hotel from Tetrarch Capital in February.
Killashee becomes the sixth hotel in the company’s portfolio of four-star hotels. The other hotels are The Heritage Hotel in Laois, Castleknock Hotel in Dublin, Faithlegg in Waterford, and La Cala and Sunset Beach Club on the Costa del Sol in Spain.
Set on 55 acres of parkland, gardens and walkways, the 141 bedroom hotel’s facilities include a spa and leisure centre with swimming pool and hydrotherapy pool.
FBD, which paid €25m for the hotel, says it is spending €1.1m in the coming months on improving the premises, and that total refurb investment will come to €5m by 2024.
The immediate plans for Killashee include the refurbishment of the reception and entrance porch areas, and the restaurants. As part of this first phase of the refit, the Graydon Wing and its 70 bedrooms will be upgraded with new furnishings, televisions, Dyson hairdryers and Nespresso machines.
The hotel was originally an 18th century Georgian house. The acquisition of the estate by the Moore family in the early 19th century saw the construction of the manor house in 1861, which is now one of the features of the hotel.
The La Sante order of nuns acquired the property in 1927 and converted the manor house into a convent and boarding school.
Killashee became a hotel in the early 2000s and was bought by Tetrarch Capital in 2014.
David Kelly, CEO of FBD Hotels & Resorts, said: “Killashee Hotel is a successful business with a longstanding reputation of excellence. We have both short-term and long-term investment plans for the hotel to include investments in the business, its infrastructure, and its people.”
FBD Hotels & Resorts employs 900 people across its hotel and resort portfolio. The addition of Killashee Hotel brings the number of hotel rooms in the group to 1,078.
