US doughnut chain Krispy Kreme, whose first Irish store in Blanchardstown attracted long, round-the-clock queues when it opened in 2018, has announced it will open its third Dublin store at Central Plaza next month.

Krispy Kreme, which also has a store in Swords Pavilions and a kiosk at Dundrum Town Centre, will open its doors at at the site of the former Central Bank at 7am on 18 May, and the new store will have full-glass frontage to allow customers and passers-by to see the doughnuts being made.

"There was a huge reaction to our previous store openings in Blanchardstown and Swords Pavilions with people even queuing overnight to be the first through the doors," Declan Foley, Krispy Kreme country manager for Ireland, said.

"This time around we are expecting an even bigger buzz as we open our first stand-alone hot light store in Dublin city centre! There will be lots of fun and surprises on opening day so get there early and join in the Krispy Kreme joy! The first 300 people will be in for a treat!”

Central Plaza, which is being developed by Hines Real Estate Ireland Ltd and the Peterson Group, had been due to open in 2020, with tenants including Latin American restaurant chain Las Iguanas, Bujo Burger, and Gino's Gelato announced in addition to Krispy Kreme.

Hines said in late 2019 that 75% of the 12,500 sq m of retail, food and beverage and office space has been leased and that discussions with retailers and food and beverage providers were at an advanced stage, although the pandemic has since delayed the opening by two years.

WeWork had already snapped up eight floors of the development for co-working space while Serendipity by Design had secured a contract to design the rooftop food and beverage area.

Of the Krispy Kreme opening, Peter Lynn, director of Hines Real Estate Ireland Ltd, added: "As Central Plaza nears completion, Krispy Kreme’s new flagship store will be the first to open to the public in this iconic mixed-use development.

"We are very pleased to welcome Krispy Kreme to Central Plaza, their brand will bring an exciting and unique retail experience to the upgraded plaza, contributing greatly to the exciting mix of [food and beverage] brands that Central Plaza will offer Dublin consumers.”
