Deliveroo, the on-demand delivery service for high-quality restaurant meals, has launched its services in Galway city today, its third Irish hub. The Galway launch follows Deliveroo’s roll out to Dublin and Cork.

Deliveroo launched in 2013 in London to provide a premium food delivery experience. Unlike the majority of food delivery businesses that are online marketplaces for takeaway restaurants, Deliveroo partners with premium restaurants that don’t typically provide delivery, offering its customers a range of new choices.

Customers order meals which are delivered by Deliveroo’s team of drivers and cyclists in an average of 30 minutes. The service is powered by Deliveroo’s proprietary technology and logistics platform.

Deliveroo’s investors include Irish entrepreneur Dylan Collins of Hoxton Ventures and the company raised $70 million investment from investors in July 2015.

The month Deliveroo has launched in Dubai, Hong Kong, Singapore, Melbourne and Sydney after raising $100 million Series D investment. The round was led by DST Global and Greenoaks Capital with participation from existing investors Accel, Hummingbird Ventures and Index Ventures.

The company says that it is currently active in 50 cities across 12 countries and has 5,000 participating restaurants.

Oliver Dewhurst (pictured, centre), general manager of the operation in Ireland, said: “The Irish business is experiencing phenomenal growth in Dublin and Cork and we’re excited to add Galway, with more to come in the near future.”

Deliveroo is seeking to recruit 30 drivers in Galway for the home-delivery service. Partner restaurants in the city include McCambridges, Hooked, Creole and The Dough Bros.

Deliveroo does office deliveries too. For example for office locations in the Dublin 4 area, the platform has a choice of 37 participating restaurants.
