Four-time Oscar nominee Saoirse Ronan will attend the inaugural Dingle Distillery International Film Festival, taking place in Dingle, Co Kerry this November.

The festival will be hosted at local institutions around Dingle such as the Phoenix Cinema around Dingle, and celebrate the rich cinematic heritage of the Kingdom, which has served as the backdrop for films such as Ryan's Daughter, Far and Away, and Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Nine feature-length films will be entered in competition, and nine more will be screened outside of competition, while nine feature-length documentaries will be presented in the documentary category.

Dingle Distillery has donated a cash prize of €5,000 for the best short film by an up-and-coming talent, the highest cash prize for a short film in Ireland to date, and prizes will also be on offer for the winning feature and documentary films.

“We are delighted to continue to support the arts, and look forward to a very successful Dingle Distillery International Film Festival,” says Elliot Hughes, managing director of Dingle Distillery.

Filmmakers can apply to enter the festival before the submission deadline of 30 September. The event will also host a masterclass form Oscar-nominated screenwriter John Sayles as well as talks and workshops targeting new and established filmmakers.

“I am very, very excited to see what the new Dingle Distillery International Festival is going to do. It’s being organised by some of the best people in the Irish film industry and the film industry as a whole and I think because of that they are going to get very exciting people to come in and do talks and workshops and curate films and things like that,” said Little Women actress Ronan.

“I don’t think there is a better place to have a film festival than in Dingle, it is an incredible town, the community are amazing.

"You can always get a nice pint and a nice bit of lunch, and I am just really excited to see what new Irish talent is going to be showcased there as well. So yeah, I can’t wait to go to the Dingle Distillery International Film Festival.”

More details of the festival will be announced next month.
