AXA Insurance has appointed Marguerite Brosnan to succeed Philip Bradley as chief executive, with Bradley retiring at the end of the year.
Bradley joined AXA in 1978 and has held various roles in Britain, France and Ireland.
He became chief executive of operations in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland in 2015. During his tenure, AXA's business has grown strongly to become a leader in the Irish market and the largest general insurance company here.
Brosnan joined the company in 2020 after two decades with Bank of Ireland, during which she rose to being managing director of its insurance division, also overseeing the transformation of BoI Wealth and New Ireland Assurance.
As retail director with AXA, Brosnan has overseen the company’s “ambitious” transformation strategy.
Brosnan said: "AXA plays a critical role 'protecting what matters' for over a million customers in Ireland.
"I am honoured and excited with this appointment and I look forward to building on the very considerable strengths of the business both in the Republic of Ireland and in Northern Ireland, continuing to expand our business, responding to our customers and partners changing needs and playing an active role in communities throughout Ireland."
