US law firm Squire Patton Boggs to establish Dublin office next year

US law firm Squire Patton Boggs is set to open an office in Dublin, its 15th location in Europe, with Dennis Agnew, who leads transactions in Ireland for Pinsent Masons, also joining the firm as a partner ahead of its Irish launch.

Squire Patton Boggs expects to open the Dublin office next May, and CEO Mark Ruehlmann said launching in Ireland is "another important milestone in our global expansion and reaffirms our commitment to providing clients with premium counsel wherever they do business."

Steve Mahon, global managing partner for clients and strategy at Squire Patton Boggs, said: "In a post-Brexit world, Ireland continues to emerge as an important center for business activity spanning several key areas of our global practice, including private equity, tech and life sciences.

"Our Dublin office will open up new opportunities for our firm and benefit clients who are already doing business and planning investments in Ireland.

Squire Patton Boggs employs 1,500 lawyers across 40 offices on four continents, including 650 at 16 US offices and 400 in the UK. Global revenue at the firm exceeded $1bn in 2021.

Agnew, who was a founding partner at Pinsent Masons Dublin office, will serve as managing partner of the Dublin office and lead recruitment. He advises international and Irish companies on cross-border mergers and acquisitions across sectors.

"Squire’s extensive international practice, particularly across the US, and tight knit culture present a great opportunity add a fully integrated, cross jurisdictional Irish practice into a global firm," Agnew said.

Paul Mann, head of private equity practice at the firm cited growth of Squires Patton Boggs' pan-European funds and corporate practices, plus inbound investment from its US practice for the Dublin move.

Of Agnew's appointment, he added: “Dennis is a seasoned practitioner with a strong track-record advising domestic and international companies on a diverse range of cross border matters.

"We are delighted that he is joining us as an integrated member of our global team and anticipate further additions in the near future.”
