Akkure reports start-up losses of €545,000

The operating company behind start-up clinical digital platform Akkure booked a loss of €367,000 in 2021, bring start-up losses to €545,000.

Akkure recently launched a second crowdfunding campaign on Spark Crowdfunding, with a €1.2m funding target. It says that €1,031,500 from 117 investors has been raised from the campaign to date.

Akkure says it is a digital platform which uses Artificial Intelligence to match patients’ data with relevant clinical trials.

It is the second time Akkure has raised money from the public through crowdfunding. The venture says it raised €1.2m in 2021 from c.200 investors on the equity crowdfunding platform.

Akkure was founded in 2019 by Professor Oran Rigby, a consultant in intensive care medicine and surgery.

The company is EIIS approved, which means that subject to conditions investors can reclaim 20% to 40% of their investment in the form of a tax rebate.

The December 2021 balance sheet for operating company Singularity Alpha Ltd shows unspecified fixed assets of €523,000 and €743,000 in cash. Period end creditors amounted to €32,000.

Akkure recently announced a project aimed at developing new medical technologies and potential cures for life threatening illnesses through ‘Digital Twins’.

The medical Digital Twin concept is a unique virtual copy of a patient’s entire genetic makeup. By grouping the data together on Akkure’s system, the company says its researchers can mine this data for insights and help clinicians develop new technologies and potential cures through precision medicine.

Akkure is affiliated with NOVA UCD and has secured major funding through the government’s Disruptive Technology Innovation Fund and Enterprise Ireland along with their consortium partners Microsoft and FutureNeuro at the Royal College of Surgeons Ireland. The company employs 20 people and is based at the Nexus building in UCD in Dublin.

The chief operating officer is Fergal Rigby, who joined the company in 2020.
