Mason Hayes & Curran appoints Will Carmody as Managing Partner

Mason Hayes & Curran has announced Will Carmody as the law firm’s new Managing Partner, succeeding Declan Black.

Carmody joined the firm in 2002 and has been head of the Financial Services department since 2018 and a member of the firm’s senior management group since 2020.

Mason Hayes & Curran is the fourth largest firm in Ireland by lawyer numbers and more than doubled in size and revenue during Declan Black’s nine-year tenure.

The firm said that Black will continue in his role as a dispute resolution partner, prioritising strategic and high-profile litigation matters.

Black said that while the growth of the firm is gratifying, he is most proud of the culture of excellence, opportunity and integrity that exists in Mason Hayes & Curran.

“That’s a testament to all the staff over the years. I am delighted that Will has been selected to take the firm forward and have no doubt that the firm will continue to prosper under his guidance,” he added.

Carmody (47) was educated at Patrician College, Ballyfin, and graduated from UCD in 1997.

His legal sole at MH&C has involved representing financial institutions and corporate borrowers on a range of secured and unsecured lending transactions, including project finance, leveraged M&A, financing of commercial real estate investments and development, corporate working capital debt requirements and Irish law issues in multi-jurisdictional finance transactions.

His project finance practice has a particular emphasis on the financing of renewable energy projects and he has advised project sponsors, bank funders and investors on the development of wind, solar and biomass electricity generation projects.

He has also advised on the financing of infrastructure investment and development in the transport, health, education and accommodation sectors.
