A spanking new apartments development in Wexford that was never occupied has been bought by Talbot Hotels, who plan to turn the 73-unit building into an aparthotel. The facility will be open for business from this summer.

The Stonebridge building on Paul’s Quay in Wexford town was completed but was never opened for public use. It was listed for sale in September 2015 at a guide price of €6.75m.

The units are partly finished and Talbot Hotels plans to invest €2.5m to finish off the complex to suit family holidays, weekend breaks and executive stays.

The building has a 314 space multi-storey car park. Guests will also have access to the pool and leisure centre and food and beverage services at the adjacent Talbot Hotel.

The development also includes over 4,000 square metres of retail space, where TK Maxx is a tenant, along with a refurbished six-storey former grain store listed building.

Talbot Hotels' Cormac Pettitt said: “This is a major acquisition for the company and we are very much looking forward to bringing life back to this amazing development. The views alone are enough to make guests fall in love with Wexford town.”

The apartments have floor space from 70 square metres up to the 180 square metres in the penthouses, and living areas have floor to ceiling windows.

The aparthotel property adjoins Oyster Lane where 70 years ago Cormac Pettitt’s grandfather Jack Pettitt established the family’s first supermarket in 1946.

The company owns and operates hotels in Wexford, Carlow, Midleton and Stillorgan, as well as six Pettitt’s SuperValu stores.
