Digital Business Ireland has named its top 20 Irish websites to shop with less than two weeks until Christmas Day, coinciding with the launch of the e-commerce representative body's 'Click Green, Buy Nearby' campaign.
The campaign encourages consumers to shop online with Irish websites over the festive season, boosting the Irish e-commerce industry, and the websites named on the list span retail, health and beauty, technology, hospitality and other sectors.
"Digital Business Ireland is delighted to highlight these exceptional websites and businesses during this busy period of festive shopping," said Ashley McDonnell, chairperson of DBI.
"Through this year’s National Digital Awards series – in partnership with Permanent TSB - we have borne witness to the growth of the Irish e-commerce sector, with this year’s finalists matching, and in many cases exceeding, the creativity, compliance and user experience hallmarks associated with the best large-scale e-commerce organisations from across the world.
"We hope this 2022 list will encourage Irish consumers to direct their spending power online towards Irish businesses throughout the festive period and beyond.”
Consumers are expected to spend €1,200 on average over Christmas, with more than two-thirds of shoppers (68%) intending to use their savings to cover the cost of purchases, according to data from the Consumer Protection Commission.
The 20 websites have been selected from 500 entries by a judging panel of industry experts. The websites are:
- All Real Nutrition
- Baby Elegance
- Claddagh Records
- Erva
- Evergreen Health Foods
- EZ Living Furniture
- Harvey Norman Ireland
- Inglot
- McElhinneys
- McSport
- OPPO
- Pamela Scott
- SimpleScents
- StyleSearch
- Topline Heavins & Euronics
- Whelehans Wines
DBI partners Guaranteed Ireland and .IE have their own campaigns, urging consumers to ‘look out for the g’ symbol and purchase from the websites of businesses in Ireland which display the national marker of trust.
Consumers should also be mindful of shopping safely online, and spend only with websites which ensure full compliance with requirements set out by the Advertising Standards Authority for Ireland.
