Wonde, one of the largest EdTech companies in the UK, has ranked No.2 in the Deloitte UK Technology Fast 50 for 2022, with 31,760% turnover growth over the past four years.

Cambridge based Wonde and its sub brand Evouchers has assisted 800,000 families in the UK across 20,000 schools with its free school meal programme.

Wonde was developed in 2015 as a cloud-based school’s management platform. Over 400 third party applications use the platform to access school data and 10 million children access their school apps daily across 60 countries through Wonde. Overall, Wonde manages data on 35 million users.

Wonde’s founding backers include Brendan Morrissey from Kilkenny, whose band My Little Funhouse received a large advance from Geffen Records in the 1990s.

The band toured the world for six years with bands like Guns n Roses, The Ramones and Chilli Peppers, but dropped from sight when their musical style was overtaken by grunge rock.

Wonde’s voucher proposition, Evouchers, was designed and built during the pandemic to help schools to identify children eligible for school meals and enable their parents to access supermarket vouchers during lockdowns, isolation or holidays.

In the past year Evouchers has started to work with housing associations in the UK to provide vouchers to tenants and is also working with local governments on projects to provide clothing to refugees.

Morrissey commented: “Wonde has expanded in the past two years from 30 employees at the start of the pandemic to currently 150 staff in the UK and Australia.

“Our growth is driven by our sub-brand Evouchers where we send digital vouchers to parent’s phones to allow them to access supermarket vouchers through the UK’s free school meals programme. We currently assist over 1 million UK families daily. We also provide vouchers to tenants through housing associations and clothing for refugees.”

Wonde acquired cyber security specialist Secure Schools in August 2022.

“The acquisition has enabled Secure Schools to invest in audit and technical assessment platforms, along with new products to support technical assurance of schools’ defences against specific cyber-attacks,” said Morrissey.

“Both companies are focused on delivering innovative, robust security solutions to those operating in the education sector.”

Morrissey is also responsible for iHelp, an app that provides support to people recovering from mental health conditions such as depression and anxiety, and iDyslexic,

In April 2022, Morrissey launched Ukraine School a free virtual school for children displaced by the War in Ukraine.

“Our platform operates in 50 languages removing a barrier to entry for any child entering a new school in another country. They type in their language, and we convert it in real time to their teacher’s language,” Morrissey explained.

“We assist with their homework, activities, blogs, messaging, calendar and connect them with new friends in and out of school. We also provide free apps for parents to help them to connect with their child in school.

“With the awful uncertainty of having to leave home and move to a new country we wanted to provide a safe friendly environment for students to connect with teachers and new friends and to help them integrate into a new education system as easy as possible.”
