Budget fashion retailer Penneys has launched a new website in Ireland after it was rolled out in the UK last year -- but customers will not be able to purchase goods through the site.
The newly-designed site maintains Penneys' commitment to bricks-and-mortar retail while featuring a wider range of Penneys items in fashion, homeware, lifestyle, beauty and more.
Customers can check the availability of stock at their local store and sizing information using the site. They will also be able to view more product images and more detailed product information.
Penneys customers can also create an account that gives them access to the 'wishlist' function, which allows them to save their favourite products for later, and they can sign up for the company's newsletter for news and previews of new collections.
"We know our Penneys customers love coming into our stores, but we now want to make it easier for them to see what’s in store by showcasing a much wider selection of our products online, enabling them to browse and check stock availability in their local store before visiting," said Damien O'Neill, head of Penneys Ireland and Northern Ireland.
"Our ranges showcase our strong commitment to value, something we know matters more than ever to our customers right now and our website will help us to shine a spotlight on the breadth of fashionable and affordable choices available in our stores across Ireland.”
The website will be rolled out to its remaining 13 markets in the coming months. Penneys, which trades a Primark internationally, trialled a click-and-collect service in 25 UK stores last summer.
Penneys recorded sales of £7.7bn for the 12 months to mid-September, an increase of 43% year-on-year as stores in Europe and North America resumed normal trade following the relaxation of Covid restrictions.
Parent company Associated British Foods said on Tuesday that it would announce a trading update for the 16 weeks to 7 January on 24 January.
