KPMG has gone all literary in its latest corporate responsibility report, which is made up of a collection of short stories drawn from its staff volunteer work over the course of 2014 to 2015.
‘Our CSR Story’ tells the tale of KPMG’s skills-based endeavours in CSR over the past eighteen months and highlights the wide range of communities and charities which have benefitted from the extra-curricular and voluntary efforts of KPMG’s people.
And the firm has gone one step beyond by publishing ‘Our CSR Story’ as a professionally-produced e-book which readers can browse through online.
The firm’s head of CSR, Karina Howley, told the launch gathering that the firm had found the greatest benefits arise when the existing skills of staff are applied to the challenges facing charitable and voluntary bodies.
“The greatest CSR benefits arise when businesses leverage the skills of their people,” said Howley, who sits on the government’s CSR Stakeholder Forum. “Harnessing the enthusiasm, experience and skills of your people means you get the most from their time and commitment – and everyone benefits.”
Managing partner Shaun Murphy added: ‘CSR creates opportunities for everyone to make a difference in Ireland and overseas, working with outstanding partners and helping people overcome challenges whilst learning new skills and solutions.”
The firm mobilises 900 volunteers every year, with over 9,500 staff hours donated, and supported by the firm. The effort results in €750,000 of donations in kind annually, plus €250,000 in cash and a further €80,000 employee fundraising.
