Sean Dunne returns to TV with new RTE role

Journalist Sean Dunne has been appointed deputy programme editor with RTÉ News.

Dunne moves into television from RTÉ Radio 1 where he was a producer for Drivetime and Today with Claire Byrne.

He joined RTÉ in 2023 after nearly three years at Virgin Media Television, during which time he produced The Tonight Show and the Garda documentary Dublin After Dark.

During his career in journalism, the Laois native has also worked for the Irish Daily Mail and Irish Mail on Sunday, the Irish Times, the Sunday Independent and UTV Ireland.

Dunne also spent a year as a press officer for Fianna Fáil, and he has published a novel, A D’Arcy Blake Adventure: A Case for the Tech Detectives.

In 2016, he won NewsBrands Ireland's Young Journalist of the Year and the Law Society of Ireland Justice Media Award.

"Delighted to say I’ll be taking up a new role as a Deputy Programme Editor with RTÉ TV News soon," Dunne wrote on X recently.

"I’ll really miss working on @drivetimerte & @RTERadio1 but look forward to joining the newsroom teams."
