People who complain about the price of iPhones should take a look at Venezuela, where the device will set you back just short of $98,000 (€93,100).

The Venezuelan price tag is due to the hyperinflation that is devastating the local economy, but even so it places the Latin American country as 100 times more expensive in the iPhone cost stakes than the next dearest, Singapore (a mere €931), and over 200 times dearer than the cheapest location, which is Angola (€382).

The statistics comes from the 2017 Technology Price Index, compiled by Linio, which has reviewed iPhone prices and other popular tech products globally.

For 71 countries, Linio researched average prices for 14 different devices. The cheapest countries for buying tech are in the Middle East, where sales tax is low or non-existent.

On the other end of the scale, the most expensive countries for electronics are Belarus and Venezuela, where inflation and import restrictions have taken a huge toll on consumer access to the market.

The cheapest item on Linio’s list is a portable charger, which can be picked up for €2.32 in Kuwait. But don’t try to buy one in Venezuela — there it will cost you €371. Caracas also boasts the single most expensive item on the entire list - an Apple MacBook for €167,630.
