Bord Gáis Energy is planning a second price cut in eight months for its gas and electricity services.
The firm said that its customers will have the unit rate of gas cut by a further 2.5% and the unit rate of electricity by a further 2.0%. The cuts will reduce the average (dual fuel) household energy bill by €44.59, following price cuts announced earlier this year that saved customers €54.38.
The changes will come into effect from October 1 2015 for residential gas and electricity customers.
According to Bord Gáis Energy, the reductions represent an annual saving of €20.25 on an average customer's gas bill and €24.34 on an average customer's electricity bill.
Dave Kirwan, chief operating officer with Bord Gáis Energy, said: “In announcing a reduction to our prices we are doing what we said we would do in January 2015; passing on wholesale cost savings to our customers as soon as we can.”
