Dublin-based connectivity software company Cubic Telecom is working with Microsoft on its Connected Vehicle Platform, developing a ‘core service offering’ for Microsoft’s platform in the global market.
The Microsoft MCVP is a set of services, built on Microsoft Azure, designed to give the automotive industry the ability to create customer-connected driving.
Cubic Telecom already works with Audi, Volkswagen and Porsche in the transport area, and with companies such as Woolworth and Rakuten which also need connectivity solutions for the Internet of Things or machine-to-machine communications.
Volkswagen is using Azure and MCVP for its ‘Volkswagen Automotive Cloud’, and Cubic on Azure for the connectivity solution. “We welcome the ecosystem coming together to provide a seamless solution for customers”, said Heiko Huettel, cloud lead at Volkswagen.
The company says that its PACE platform allows it to “create connectivity where there was none available before”. Its network spans more than 180 countries and includes more than 65 mobile partnerships, with in excess of two million drivers already using its connected car systems.
Cubic Telecom chief executive Barry Napier (pictured) commented: “As global car manufacturers undertake to digitally transform their businesses, they are fuelled not just to achieve improved economies of scale, but rather to meet the scalability requirements for application processing, performance, storage, security and software updates.
"The collaboration between Cubic PACE, MCVP and Volkswagen is a prime example of digital innovation and we are proud to be chosen as the first global connectivity provider for MCVP.”
The overall objective is that MCVP will power next-generation, connected vehicles with features such as advanced navigation, predictive maintenance, remote monitoring of car features, and more.
Microsoft’s MCVP programme manager Tara Prakriya added: “We chose Cubic Telecom as the first global connectivity provider for MCVP as it has a proven track record. With Cubic’s proven and scaled connected services, hosted on Microsoft Azure, we look forward to bringing the MCVP solution to market together and discovering more possibilities for technological innovations.”
