Data centre and air cooling systems manufacturer Edpac International is to create 50 new jobs following the extension of its manufacturing plant at Carrigaline, Co Cork, to 5,000 sq m.
The new extension was opened by Tanaiste Simon Coveney, who said: “Edpac International exemplifies all that makes Irish companies so successful around the globe — a high quality solution, innovative in design and execution, combined with ambitious leadership and outstanding customer service to create a truly world class product."
The Irish company's clients include Doha Airport, Qatar’s Al Wakra Stadium, Hong Kong’s Metro, Bolivia’s Itaipu Dam, Copenhagen’s City Link Metro, the BBC in the UK, most hospitals in Ireland, and Pairc Uí Chaoimh in its home county.
Edpac said it will take on the additional staff over the next 24 months. The roles span design engineers, refrigeration technicians, plumbers and electricians, as well as quality engineers and logistics personnel.
Managing director Noel Lynch commented: “The opening of the extended manufacturing site will undoubtedly enhance productivity and how we work as a team. We have a number of exciting international and national projects in the pipeline, and look forward to continuing to grow and develop from our Cork sites in Carrigaline and Newmarket.”
The extension, which doubles the area of the plant, includes a new environmental test laboratory, dedicated factory witness test facility and a new canteen. The Newmarket facility supports the Carrigaline factory, providing prefabricated components and manufacturing high quality air handling systems to customer specifications.
Edpac was founded in the US in 1968 and designed the first Electronic Data Processing air conditioning unit. The Irish operation was set up as a licensee operation in 1985. The present management team acquired the business in 1999 and it is the last remaining factory with the Edpac name.
