Kinsale Gourmet Wins Innovation Award

Kinsale Gourmet has won the Innovation award at the Blas na hÉireann food awards.

The Cork company’s recently launched Meals Made Easy range was chosen as the overall winner from 90 products.

Blas na hÉireann, the Irish Food Awards is in its eighth year and celebrates quality Irish produce.

The Meals Made Easy range was launched in June and has a contract with SuperValu. The kits include four par-cooked pots that are cooked in one pan to create a nutritious meal in six minutes.

The ingredients are gluten free, and contain no preservatives, additives, artificial colours or artificial flavours.

One of judges, Joseph Kerry of UCC’s School of Food and Nutritional Sciences said:“The winner meets a resurgence of people cooking meals at home, and the need for convenience means the scratch cooking model allows for effective time management.

"Meals Made Easy offer an innovative bespoke meal solution that are balanced with protein and carbohydrates and are nutritious as well as rich in flavour.”

Kinsale Gourmet will receive a bursary of €4,000 for services and support in BIM’s Seafood Development Centre. BIM’s Seafood Development Centre has sponsored Blas na hÉireann’s Innovation award for the last four years.
