Construction software company GoContractor has been signed up by McCarthy Building Companies in the United States to handle the integration of sub-contract workers into its digital processes.

McCarthy is the oldest — and one of the largest privately held — construction companies in the US, with more than 5,000 employees and $4.5 billion in annual revenues. The Irish-owned and based GoContractor specialises in the digitalisation of hiring and compliance tracking in the construction industry.

The agreement will mean that McCarthy’s entire project and safety orientation process for its craft and trade partner workers will be digitalised using GoContractor’s on-boarding and worker management platform to help create safer projects, reduce common risks associated with worker on-boarding and management, and streamline the integration of workers.

It follows a successful pilot project during which McCarthy tested out the solution, and the company says it now plans to shift its entire orientation operation to GoContractor, and intends to be completely digital by the end of 2022.

GoContractor chief executive Maria Mahon said: “GoContractor is extremely proud to partner with a firm of the calibre of McCarthy Building Companies.

“GoContractor has experienced a rapid level of growth in Ireland and internationally, as more and more companies are utilising our software solutions to ensure their on-boarding processes are efficient, comprehensive and cost effective while ensuring safety standards are maintained as a first priority.”

McCarthy vice president for safety Rob Graham added: “By utilising GoContractor’s digital Safety Orientation Programme we have been able to improve efficiencies in our on-boarding process, benefiting both individual workers and our project management teams. Workers now have immediate access to our orientation information, helping to streamline this process while still maintaining our safety culture that is critical to our overall safety programme.”

The company says its SaaS platform can cut on-boarding costs by as much as 50% by getting workers to complete induction ahead of time via smartphones, tablets or laptops. Last year, it partnered with the Construction Industry Federation to enable more than 125,000 workers in construction to return to work during phase one of the lifting of Covid-19 restrictions.

Overall, GoContractor helped approximately 250,000 in heavy industries to return to work, according to the company. The induction programme enabled construction employees to clearly understand their on-site responsibilities in terms of safe working.
