Mark O’Keeffe of Sugar Culture Hairdressing and Beauty Group was officially appointed as the new President of the Irish Hairdressers Federation at their Annual General Meeting.
O'Keeffe is taking over from outgoing President Lisa Eccles.
In a heartfelt address, he expressed his gratitude to Eccles, acknowledging her exceptional leadership and unwavering support throughout her term.
“On behalf of the committee, I’d like to thank Lisa for being an incredible leader - always supportive, encouraging, and unwavering in her attention to detail,” said O’Keeffe.
“On a personal note, I wouldn’t feel prepared for this role without the privilege of learning from her.
“Every day brought valuable lessons and beyond being an inspiring leader, Lisa has become one of my closest friends and confidants.”
O’Keeffe also announced Nicola Lawless, The Hair Company Broadstone, as the Federation’s new Vice President, praising her dedication and work ethic.
“Nicola has proven herself to be a hardworking and diligent committee member, and no matter the task, if Nicola takes it on, it gets done,” he stated.
O’Keeffe’s speech underscored the IHF’s ongoing commitment to advocating for the industry, from presenting pre-budget submissions and engaging in government lobbying to impactful initiatives like the Save Our Salons campaign.
Meanwhile, the launch of the IHF Art Team, led by Steven Kelly, brings a creative dimension to the Federation’s efforts, celebrating stylist talent and giving back to the industry by spotlighting exceptional work produced in Irish salons.
O’Keeffe’s presidency holds a special personal significance, as he follows in the footsteps of his father, Frank O’Keeffe, who served as IHF President in 1982.
“For me, it’s a great honour to follow in my father’s footsteps,” he said.

“My focus will be on advocating for initiatives that support the industry’s growth and creating pathways that provide valuable opportunities for aspiring professionals.”
O’Keeffe concluded with advice once shared with him by former IHF President David Campbell when he first joined the committee: “It’s not just about giving back – it’s about seeing it through. That’s my commitment – to see it through to the end and leave the Federation in an even better position for those who come after me.”
