Charities Institute Ireland (Cii) has announced the appointment of Peter Cosgrove as the new Chair of its Board of Directors.

He takes over from Susan O’Dwyer, CEO of Make-A-Wish Ireland, who has served with distinction in the role.

Cosgrove brings a wealth of experience across both the corporate and not-for-profit sectors.

He is Managing Director of Futurewise, a foresight consultancy focused on the future of work, and has held senior leadership roles with CPL Resources, Hudson, PwC, and JP Morgan.

A respected commentator and bestselling author, Cosgrove is also a prominent figure in the charity sector, having served on the boards of Aware, Brain Tumour Ireland, and Junior Achievement Ireland.

He is currently Chair of Generation Ireland and a board member of the St. Patrick’s Festival and the 30% Club Ireland.

Outgoing Chair O’Dwyer reflected on her tenure: “It has been a privilege to serve as Chair. I’ve witnessed the incredible resilience and passion of Ireland’s charities.

“I’m confident Peter’s leadership will strengthen Cii’s impact even further.”

Cosgrove added: “I’m honoured to step into this role at such a crucial time for the charity sector.

“Cii plays a vital role in helping organisations maximise their impact and build public trust. I look forward to working with the team to champion excellence and support meaningful change.”

His appointment coincides with the implementation of Cii’s 2024–2027 strategic plan, which outlines four key priorities: representing and advocating for the sector, building public confidence, fostering member development, and investing in organisational excellence.

As demand for charity services continues to rise, Cii say Cosgrove’s appointment underscores its commitment to strong, strategic leadership and its mission to empower professional charities to deliver sustainable, long-term impact in communities across Ireland.
