David Price, co-owner and director of Perpetua Fitness is this month's occupant of the Executive Chair

What was your earliest ambition?

To be a designer or an inventor, predominantly driven by my passion for creativity and innovation.

In Perpetua Fitness, my role allows me to combine all of these passions with my other love — health, wellness and fitness.

What’s your motto for life?

Keep livin’!

Business Bulletin

What is your biggest fear?

Looking back and regretting the opportunities I didn’t take or the risks I didn’t embrace.

That’s why I always weigh everything up and try not to let this happen.

What was the best piece of business advice you ever received?

Don’t dwell on the past, learn from your mistakes and move on.

It is what it is.

What’s the most difficult thing about running a business?

My primary goal is to drive the business forward.

While it can sometimes be challenging to delegate and extremely tempting to get involved in every detail, I’m fortunate to have an incredible team.

We trust and support each other, and we truly are focused on our primary goal of sustained success.

Which business people inspired you?

My late father Mike Price for his work ethic and creativity.

His relentless drive to pursue his ambitions inspires me every day to follow in his footsteps.

What was the last holiday you took?

I recently went to Toronto for business and pleasure.

In Toronto, the health and fitness industry is huge and gyms are embracing their role as ‘third places’ — a space between home and the workplace which creates a feeling of familiarity and belonging.

The popularity of fitness meet-ups has also increased due to a higher number of people working remotely.

Which famous guests would you love to have at your dinner party?

Dr Dre, Kevin Bridges, David Attenborough and Amy Winehouse.

Now, that would be a party.

What are your best and worst business habits?

I always lead by example. The health and fitness industry in Ireland is growing rapidly and Perpetua Fitness is constantly evolving to continually retain our position as a leader in this space.

I sometimes spend too much time focusing on the finer details, but when you’re designing and operating bespoke gym spaces, every aspect is important — we are creating an experience for customers.

What’s your favourite show on television?

Grand Designs. I love seeing people push boundaries by designing unique homes and turning their creative visions into reality.

What’s your favourite way to unwind after work?

Spending quality time with my three girls is my favourite way to relax after a busy day.

If your business had a theme song, what would it be?

Ain’t no Stoppin’ Us Now by McFadden and Whitehead.

What car do you drive?

A Land Rover.

What is your favourite one-line joke?

An Irishman walks out of a bar…

What’s your party piece?

It has to be the limbo. Don’t ask.

What do you wish you’d known at an earlier point in your career?

I wish I had realised earlier that life is short, and it’s important to focus on what truly matters.

Instead of overthinking or hesitating, I’ve learned to take risks, embrace opportunities and prioritise work that aligns with my passions and values.

If you could be Taoiseach for a month, what legislative change would you make happen?

I believe fitness, wellness and initiatives that promote a healthy body and mind should be encouraged.

Introducing a supportive Vat rate and targeted grants, where appropriate, would make these essential services more accessible, empowering everyone to maintain their physical and mental well-being.
