While the recovery from COVID has been slow for the tourism industry, this year did see growth in Irish airport passengers.
The origin and destination of these passengers were compiled for Q2 of 2022, with our nearest neighbour understandably topping the list.
The sunshine would have been a big factor for Spain in second place and there were big numbers for the United States too, with Irish people getting across the Atlantic and tourism attracting people back to the country.
Origin/Destination | Numbers |
England | 2,439,200 |
Spain | 1,369,500 |
United States | 857,300 |
France | 577,200 |
Italy | 503,700 |
Germany | 500,400 |
Portugal | 459,300 |
Netherlands | 358,900 |
Scotland | 319,600 |
Poland | 243,200 |
The data was collected for Q2 when the country saw airport queues and flight disruption in Dublin airport as a lack of staff numbers meant security were unable to process the number of people trying to fly out of Ireland.
