Electricity prices fell in May but are still slightly higher than this time last year

Wholesale electricity prices fell by 2.3% in the month to May 2025 but were 0.8% higher than May 2024, according to the CSO's Wholesale Price Index data.

The latest data also showed domestic producer prices for manufactured goods were on average 0.9% higher in May 2025 compared with a year earlier, while producer prices for exported goods were down by 2.0%.

Overall, manufacturing producer prices were 1.8% lower in the year.

Producer prices for food products increased by 6.3% in the 12 months to May 2025, while the Food Products, Beverages & Tobacco Index was up by 5.1%.

The largest increase was a notable 22% rise in dairy products last month compared to May 2024.

Meat and meat product prices increased by 7.9% while prices for vegetables and animal oils and fats fell by 16.2%. & Fats (-16.2%).

The data also showed wholesale prices for construction products grew by 0.1% in the month to May 2025 and rose by 0.9% in the 12 months since May 2024.
