The seasonally adjusted number of people on the Live Register increased by 1,100 last month, according to the Central Statistics Office (CSO).
There were 169,600 people on the Live Register in July, up by 0.7 per cent from 168,500 but down from 170,700 last July.
The unadjusted Live Register total was 185,627, of whom 52 per cent were men and 73 per cent were Irish. The unadjusted total was up 7.5 per cent from June (172,663) and down 341 from the same month last year (185,968).
The 25-34 age group made up the largest share at 44,446 people or 23.9 per cent ahead of the 35-44 cohort (41,773 or 22.5 per cent) and the 45-54 group (37,461 or 20.2 per cent).
The 22,743 people under the age of 25 on the Live Register accounted for 12.3 per cent of all claimants.
The counties that recorded the largest percentage increases in Live Register signees year-on-yer were Dublin (+5.6 per cent) and Kildare (+2.8 per cent).
The largest annual decreases were posted in Kerry at -13.7 per cent and Clare (-9.5 per cent).
Jobseeker's Allowance claims made up the majority of persons on the Live Register but have declined 5.2 per cent or 6,237 over the past 12 months to 115,547.
Similarly, the number of Jobseeker's Benefit claims decreased by 27 per cent or 14,085 from last July.
A total of 21,683 people are now claiming Jobseeker's Pay Related Benefit, which was introduced in March.
The number of people on the Live Register for a year or more was 56,280, down 7,579 or 11.9 per cent from a year ago.
There were 31,516 people availing of activation programmes, a decline or 2.8 per cent or 896 from this time last year.

The number of Ukrainian refugees benefitting from the EU Temporary Protective Directive included in the Live Register figures was 12,278.
Some 63.8 per cent were women (7,832) and 88.6 per cent (10,880) were over 25 years old.
