'PHD' take home 2022 NewsBrands Ireland Power of Planning award

Media planners from team ‘PHD’ have won the annual NewsBrands Ireland ‘Power of Planning’ award.

The team included Roisin Walsh, Nicola White, Billy Cronin, Oleksandra Yaklyushyna, and Alexandra Kearns, creating a media plan for a curated electric car brand Motus by using various print and digital platforms of NewsBrands Irish member publishers.

The brief called for the team to position Motus as the number one electric car brand in Ireland, dispeling "range anxiety" issues amongst consumers. Each team was given a maximum of four hours to create a media plan with their team.

PHD’s winning plan stood out for the clear strategy and publisher section, as well as creative use of news brands platforms which included high impact Full Page inserts, dynamic digital display, along with a video and content series news publisher partnerships.

The 2022 Power of Planning competition took place on Tuesday in the Morrison Hotel in Dublin. 11 teams from ten different agencies were invited to get themselves involved in all things Newsbrands Ireland.

Award-winning journalist Kevin Doyle hosted the NewsBrands Engage event, and oversaw a full room of media professionals discussing research and case studies on the power of advertising.

Christine Matthews, TGI gave a presentation inviting the audience to "get up close and personal" using the latest TGI Data and revealed that 82% of Irish people read a print or digital news title every week.

The ‘Journalism Matters’ panel discussion with award-winning journalists was also a major talking point of the day. The panel included Sunday World crime correspondent and winner of Podcast of the Year for Crime World, Nicola Tallant and Investigative Journalist of the Year with Reach Ireland, Mostafa Darwish, as well as Jack Horgan-Jones of the Irish Times.

Speaking about the competition, Lisa Buckley, Communications and Programmes Director at NewsBrands Ireland said: "Congratulations to ‘TEAM PHD’ and to all the teams who took part in our annual education day and media planning competition.

"Great to be back doing physical events and getting to meet the next generation of talented media planners."
