Pop star and actress Selena Gomez is leading the launch of Wondermind, a newsletter, podcast network and product line geared around improving mental fitness and destigmatising mental health.
Described as a "360-degree ecosystem" for mental fitness, Wondermind will consist of daily editorial content developed in partnership with licensed mental health professionals from diverse backgrounds.
Wondermind will take established treatment methods and repackage them as accessible content, including a three-times-weekly newsletter and a monthly "cover story featuring experts and celebrities".
The platform will also launch the MindHit podcast this summer, featuring interviews with prominent psychiatrists, athletes and celebrities offering "actionable" insights and advice, and a second podcast with business figures speaking about their mental health.
The company also plans to launch a product line with "first-of-their-kind physical tools" created in partnership with mental health professionals for improving mental fitness, and the founders also have plans to branch out into TV and film production.
Gomez, the singer and actress best known for The Wizards of Waverly Place and Only Murders in the Building, co-founded Wondermind with the co-CEOs, screenwriter Mandy Teefey and the Newsette founder Daniella Pierson, and the project was inspired by their own mental health journeys.
"Every person has their own mental health journey. If we ignore them, [glamorise] them or hide them from the world, it doesn't change that the journey is very real," Gomez said. "Wondermind is extending a larger mental health conversation that began for so many during this pandemic."
Teefey said the founders hope to make Wondermind a "one-stop-shop for all aspects of mental fitness" and that the content will strike a balance between "education, media and self-reflection" without being "medical or preachy".
"We created Wondermind as a mental fitness ecosystem where everyone is welcome," Pierson added. "We hope to [democratise] and [destigmatise] mental health by providing users with content, tools, and resources backed by proven science and psychological treatments, while [normalising] the conversation on a global scale."
