Irish forecourt retailer Applegreen opened its fifth site and second motorway service area in Northern Ireland today, creating 120 jobs. The Lisburn Motorway Service Area is located between Junction 3 and Junction 6 on the M1 southbound.

In addition to a full convenience store, fuelling pumps and parking, the Applegreen M1 Lisburn Motorway Service Area has a food court with outlets such as UK bakery Greggs, Burger King and Subway. The new 6.5-acre site is the largest motorway service area in Northern Ireland.

Joe Barrett, chief operations officer of Applegreen, said: “We are excited to continue to develop our business here in Northern Ireland even further over the coming years, and today’s opening is such an important step on that journey.”

Established in 1992, Applegreen employs around 2,900 people, and operates 200 forecourt sites across the UK, Ireland and the US. The company recently published its first accounts since listing on the Irish Stock Exchange in June 2015.

The company’s revenue grew by 15% to €1bn in 2015. However, pre-tax profits for Applegreen fell by almost 7% to €13.9m.
