Medical device technology maker Boston Scientific has unveiled a €100m plan to expand its operations at Ballybrit, Co Galway that is expected to create 300+ jobs in the coming years.

Boston Scientific will add 40,000 sq ft of medical device manufacturing space that will be powered by renewable energy. The company has operated in Galway for nearly 30 years and has expanded site capabilities to include advanced product design, R&D and manufacturing.

The expanded site will include a carbon neutral manufacturing space in alignment with the company’s goal to achieve carbon neutrality in all manufacturing and key distribution sites by 2030.

Boston Scientific estimates that more than 4m medical devices, including heart stents and valves, vascular balloons and oesophageal stents, exported from the Galway facility annually.

"This expansion reflects the important contributions of our workforce here in Galway and the strength of the broader business and local community in the west region,” said James Lyons, vice president of operations at Boston Scientific.
