Dublin Airport plans recruitment of an additional 100 staff and to redeploy staff from Cork Airport to ease Easter passenger queues.

The Dublin Airport Authority, which operates the airport, outlined the plans to the Oireachtas transport committee, adding that it had invited 250 people for interviews this week in a bid to ramp up the number of security screening staff available across the two terminals.

The other prongs of the plan include contracting third-party trainers and transferring trained staff at Dublin Airport back to security screening. It is also looking at contacting staff on career breaks to see if they would consider coming back to work in the short-term.

Overtime is also being offered to screening staff to encourage them to work additional hours.

The airport has advised people to arrive up to three and a half hours before their flight, and four hours if they are parking a car, to allow for delays going through security, which have been prompted by staff shortages as air travel rebounds post-pandemic to December 2019 levels.

The airport has advised people to arrive up to three and a half hours before their flight, and four hours if they are parking a car, to allow for delays going through security, which have been prompted by staff shortages as air travel rebounds post-pandemic to December 2019 levels.

It has said the problem could last until June, with six weeks needed to train new security staff.

Passengers have complained of missed flights and chaotic scenes at the airport, which started last week, and continued during another busy day yesterday.

Meanwhile, Defence Minister Simon Coveney has said that no formal request for members of the Defence Forces to help with the lengthy airport delays has been made.
