The Limerick Strand Hotel has completed a €1.6m refurbishment programme that included an upgrade of its 184 bedrooms and 13 suites.
The four-star hotel also announced a €3.3m development plan that will see a further increase the current bedroom count. An additional 20 bedrooms will be added in early 2020, bringing the total bedroom count to 204.
Limerick Strand said that it used more than 40 local trade and experts to work on the refurbishment. Limerick firm Abbey Owney was commissioned to make bespoke furniture and Conroy Curtains installed the curtains and voiles.
Other firms involved in the refurbishment included Vescom for wallpapering, Hicken Lighting and Eamon Flynn Painting & Decorating.
Interior designer Deirdre O’Donnellan commissioned paintings of local landmarks from Spire Art to complement the room interior colours. In-room facilities were also upgraded to include glass counter tops, new Philips TVs and new RESPA beds.
“As a leading hotel in the city, it is essential to continuously reinvest in the hotel, its facilities and amenities to maintain our place among Limerick’s leading hotels,” said Limerick Strand general manager Stephen O’Connor.
Around 180 staff are employed in the Limerick Strand, which is a member of the MHL Collection.
Owned by a partnership comprising US tycoon John Malone, John Lally and Paul Higgins, MHL Collection comprises eleven 4-star and 5-star hotels at locations in Dublin (7), Galway (3) and Limerick (1).
