Life sciences company Ortec Inc has opened a new European headquarters in Newcastle West in Limerick, along with a manufacturing and operations centre.
Hiring has already begun, with Ortec seeking people for jobs in production, laboratory, and maintenance, starting from December, with all positions being listed via Collins McNicholas.
The 26,000 sq ft facility is a dedicated cGMP manufacturing facility. In addition to product synthesis, other capabilities include USP/EP generated water, a full-service analytical laboratory, and an ISO 8/Class 100,000 Clean Room.
The site is intended to be ISO 13485 certified and will operate under FDA/EMA guidelines for production of pharmaceutical, combination, and medical device materials. cGMP stands for Current Good Manufacturing Practices and is a set of standards devised by the US Food and Drug Administration.
Ortec is owned by the South Carolina family, the Brothertons. Its president, Christopher Brotherton, said: “We are proud to call Newcastle West our new home. From the moment of our first visit we have been welcomed. Co Limerick is a great place to do business. It has the right infrastructure, work ethic, and talent pool to compete anywhere in the world.”
The company supplies custom formulation and manufacturing services to the life science industry as a contract development and manufacturing company. It serves customers in several markets including pharmaceuticals, medical devices, excipients, bio-absorbable products, hygienic products, cosmetics, and nutritional additives. Ortec currently operates from Greenville, South Carolina.
IDA Ireland global head of engineering technologies Eileen Sharpe added: “The opening of Ortec Inc’s European headquarters here in Newcastle West is very good news for Co Limerick and indeed the Mid-West region. IDA Ireland remains committed to its strategy of winning jobs and investment in regional location. I wish Ortec every success with this project.”
Further expansion is planned for the site. There’s more detail on the project and how it came to fruition on Ortec’s Irish website here.
