A new SuperValu store has opened in Dunboyne that will employ 70 people. The supermarket extends to 15,000 sq. ft. and anchors the new town centre development.

The town centre development also incorporates four adjacent units, office accommodation and a Frank and Honest cafe, which is a brand owned by Musgrave.

SuperValu Dunboyne is operated by local entrepreneurs Steven and Michael Nally of the Nally Group, who also operate SuperValu stores in Trim and Celbridge.

The new store was opened by Carmel Nally, the mother of the Nally entrepreneurs, and Steven’s son Nathan, reflecting three generations involved in the business.

The supermarket includes a bakery, deli counter, and a rotisserie, fish and butcher counter. It also incorporates a vegetarian and vegan-dedicated zone, as well as a health and wellness section.

Other features of the new Dunboyne SuperValu include free WiFi and an online click-and-collect service.

Steven Nally commented: “It is a huge vote of confidence in the local economy and it is a proud moment to create 70 new jobs in Dunboyne.”

Martin Kelleher, SuperValu managing director, explained that the Dunboyne store opening is part of an expansion programme for the retailer. “SuperValu will expand our network this year with three new stores and 30 revamps,” he said.

SuperValu now operates 220 stores nationwide.

Meanwhile, Aldi expects to sell over 1,000 tonnes of Irish-grown strawberries this year, up 20% on last year, with all 137 stores ready to take delivery of early season Irish strawberries from McGuinness Brothers in North County Dublin.
