SuperValu is to open five new stores this year as part of a €28m investment, which will see the creation to 350 jobs.
The supermarket chain, which recorded sales of €2.6bn last year, said that the bumper growth and planned expansion was underpinned by the introduction to its ‘Good Food Karma’ campaign, which plugged fresh foods to consumers.
SuperValu also helped 250 small Irish food producers to secure a retail listing through Food Academy, a joint initiative with Bord Bia and the Local Enterprise Office. In 2015, SuperValu said that sales of Food Academy products reached €13m million.
The planned new store openings this year will bring SuperValu’s network of outlets to over 225. Other trends pointed out by SuperValu over the last year include the growth of e-commerce, which was up by 32% for the company in H2 2015.
