Tesco Ireland to hike staff pay by 3.5%

Tesco Ireland has announced an overall 10% pay award for staff that covers 2021, 2022 and 2023.

The salary increase is made up of:

 +  A 6.0% pay award effective from 1 April 2022, 2.5% of which will be backdated to April 2021.

+  A 4.0% pay award effective from 1 April 2023.

The retailer’s discretionary staff bonus payments were 2.5% for 2021 and 2.0% for 2022.

Tesco says the pay hikes as well as improved benefits relating to paid maternity, paternity and adoptive leave, and the introduction of a new pension plan will cost the company €40m in the three-year period.

Adams added that the company’s Defined Contribution pension scheme has added 1,000 new members since March 2022.

Tesco is the largest private-sector employer in Ireland, and since July 2021 has engaged in discussions on retail pay and benefits with trade unions and staff representatives, locally and at the Workplace Relations Commission and the Labour Court.
