The purpose of the scheme is to assist retailers to improve their online sales capabilities, to increase competitiveness, and later to scale their businesses, particularly in international markets.
In the first call on the €1.25m fund, EI will distribute €625,000 among the eleven successful applicants, which are:

- Carrolls Irish Gifts, Dublin
- Great Outdoors, Dublin

They must also have an existing e-commerce presence (such as a website or social media); have a retail outlet from which they derive most revenue; and must employ at least 20 full-time employees .
