Hume Brophy acquired by American buyer Penta

Public affairs consultancy Hume Brophy has been acquired by Penta, a multinational peer controlled by Falfurrias Capital Partners in Charlotte. North Carolina.

Founded in 2005 by John Hume and Eoin Brophy, Hume Brophy is an integrated communications and government relations firm with offices in London, Brussels, Dublin, Frankfurt, Paris, Hong Kong, and Singapore.

Hume Brophy Group Ltd, the owner of the Ireland operating company Hume Brophy Communications Ltd, was owned equally by John Hume (54) and Eoin Brophy (51).

Penta said the Hume Brophy team of c.100 professionals will provide additional expertise in sectors including energy, transportation and mobility, agribusiness, and financial services.

Hume Brophy's chief executive, Conall McDevitt, will become Managing Partner, Europe and Asia, at Penta.

Penta said that John Hume and Eoin Brophy will act as senior advisors at Penta.

In a joint statement the agency principals commented: “This is a natural and exciting progression for Hume Brophy. Penta was established in September 2022 following the merger of Ballast Research, Hamilton Place Strategies, Flag Media Analytics, alva, Gotham Research Group, and Decode_M.

Falfurrias Capital Partners is a private equity investment firm founded in 2006 by Hugh McColl Jr, former chairman and CEO of Bank of America, and Marc Oken, former CFO of Bank of America.
