Children’s charity Barnardos has officially launched the 22nd annual Big Toddle, a long-standing fundraising initiative inviting toddlers across Ireland to take part in a half-mile sponsored walk.

This year’s campaign, themed “Big Toddle Little Heroes,” shines a spotlight on the extraordinary impact made by the country’s youngest fundraisers.

Since its inception, the Big Toddle has raised an impressive €4.84m in support of Barnardos’ Early Years services, which help some of Ireland’s most vulnerable children get the best possible start in life.

Returning as campaign ambassador, broadcaster Louise Duffy shared her enthusiasm for the initiative: “I'm delighted to team up with Barnardos again this year to support the Big Toddle.

“We've moved from toddling to sprinting in our house in the last year, but this amazing campaign encourages preschool-aged children to get involved in helping others.

“I'm in awe of the work Barnardos does — changing childhoods and changing lives.”

Mary Gamble, Barnardos’ Director of Fundraising, echoed the excitement around this year’s launch: “We’re incredibly proud of all the toddlers who take part in the Big Toddle.

“These young children are making a real difference by helping ensure their peers receive the care and opportunities they deserve. It’s children helping children — and that’s something truly special.”

Businesses in the childcare and early education sectors, including crèches, childminders, and parents, are encouraged to get involved by hosting a Big Toddle anytime during May or June.
