Bushmills Irish Whiskey has announced that its 12 Year Old Single Malt will become a permanent part of its core portfolio across the island of Ireland, following significant customer demand.

The new expression, triple distilled from 100% Irish malted barley, is matured in Oloroso sherry butts and bourbon barrels before being finished in Marsala wine barriques from Sicily.

According to the distillery, the triple-cask maturation and extended ageing deliver “an elevated depth of flavour, layering ripe spiced fruit, caramelised brown sugar, and subtle nutty dryness over Bushmills’ signature smoothness.”

The 12 Year Old has already seen strong growth in international markets, particularly the US and Asia, and the company is now bringing it home to Irish shelves.

Master Blender Alex Thomas commented: “Bushmills 12 Year Old is already experiencing dynamic growth across the USA and Asia... and we’re proud to now be able to share this expression at home.

“With 12 years of maturation, a triple-cask approach, and a rare Marsala wine finish, it delivers deeper layers of flavour while staying true to the beautifully balanced, triple-distilled style Bushmills is known for.

“That unique Marsala influence brings a special hint of Sicilian sunshine – a rich new dimension to our portfolio.”

Bushmills, which traces its heritage back to 1608, produces all of its single malts on-site in Co Antrim, using 100% Irish malted barley and water sourced from St Columb’s Rill, a tributary of the River Bush.

Its location along the Causeway Coast, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, has long shaped the brand’s identity.

“Our geology and geography mean our malts have a distinct north coast character,” Thomas explained.

The distillery remains one of the few globally to oversee every stage of production in-house, from distillation to bottling. Its role in the local community remains central to the brand.

As Thomas added: “Without the whiskey there would be no village, and without the village there would be no whiskey.”

Bushmills 12 Year Old Single Malt (40% ABV) will be available from late September 2025 across major retailers and specialist off-licences on the island of Ireland, priced at £45 / €55 per 700ml bottle.
