Open Eir, which builds and manages Eir's wholesale fibre broadband network, and Sky Ireland have agreed a five-year strategic partnership aimed at improving the connectivity of their core network infrastructures.

Open Eir is in the process of expanding the network, which is already accessible to more than 1.3m homes and businesses, with plans to extend coverage to 1.9m premises or 84% of premises in Ireland.

The gigabit fibre network allows Sky to expand its market size and provide greater choice to the Irish consumer.

"Open Eir and Sky Ireland's collaboration marks a significant milestone in the Irish telecommunications industry," said Oliver Loomes, CEO of Eir.

"This direct relationship with Sky is a testament to our commitment to providing exceptional network services. We are excited to work with Sky to enable them to bring innovative solutions to the Irish market.
