Shannon Airport has recorded a significant surge in passenger traffic this summer, welcoming over 755,000 passengers across June, July, and August.
The figure represents a 16% increase compared to the same period in 2024.
This impressive growth reflects the airport’s expanding route network of 36 services, including five daily transatlantic flights, offering a wide array of destinations to suit every traveller.
Popular hotspots such as Lanzarote, Malaga, Palma, Alicante and Faro remained firm favourites among holidaymakers, as well as the new year-round route to Madeira.
This continued growth builds on a record-breaking performance in the second quarter of 2025, with 650,000 passengers travelling through Shannon Airport between April and June.
These figures represent an 11% increase on the previous year.
Commenting on these latest results, Niall Kearns, Airport Director at Shannon Airport, said: “We’re delighted to have seen such strong growth across the peak summer months. We started with a bumper June Bank Holiday weekend and never slowed down.
“It’s been a busy three months - not only in terms of passenger numbers but also in infrastructure.
“We launched 1,000 new car park spaces in our Park4Less facility and are progressing with additional major upgrades as part of our €30m investment programme.
“We’re looking ahead now to an exciting Winter season, including our new routes to Madrid and Lapland, which we expect to be hugely popular as we get closer to Christmas.”
The airport’s Winter 2025 schedule sees the addition of the new Ryanair Shannon–Madrid route, Lapland and year-round Madeira.
There are also significant increased frequencies on six existing popular services: Alicante, Edinburgh, Krakow, Lanzarote, Manchester, and Wroclaw.
Last week saw the announcement of an expanded Aer Lingus schedule from Shannon to Boston between May and August next year, bringing the number of expected transatlantic passengers from Shannon to over 350,000 in 2026, the highest number since 2018.
A new Shannon-Frankfurt service will also operate in the Summer ‘26 schedule, with twice-weekly flights operated by Discover Airlines, part of Lufthansa, which will connect with over 59 destinations across France, Germany, Italy, Austria, the USA and Asia, including Singapore, Shanghai, Beijing, Tokyo, Hong Kong and Mumbai.
