Digital whole-of-health provider Spectrum.Life has announced a first-of-its-kind partnership with the School of Psychology, Trinity College Dublin, supporting its Doctoral Programme in Counselling Psychology.
Through this initiative, Spectrum.Life has committed to funding four trainee places for Trinity College Dublin’s School of Psychology Doctoral Programme in Counselling Psychology, for the duration of 3 years, with placements in the organisation, reinforcing its commitment to developing the next generation of mental health professionals.
Spectrum.Life will be funding up to 12 places in total, with 4 sponsored trainees added each year.
Spectrum.Life’s funding boosts training capacity by 40%, accelerating the development of mental health professionals.
As the only private organisation participating in addition to the public health support, the company say the partnership highlights Spectrum.Life’s leadership in advancing clinical excellence and expanding access to mental health expertise.
Speaking about the partnership, Dr Emelina Ellis, Chief Clinical Officer at Spectrum.Life, emphasises its significance: “Ireland’s mental health crisis won’t wait, so neither can we.
“The shortage of psychologists is leaving too many without support, but action now will change that.
“Our partnership with Trinity College Dublin isn’t just an investment in education, it’s a direct intervention in the future of mental health care.
“By increasing the number of Trainee Counselling Psychologists in Trinity College Dublin by 40%, we are building the workforce needed to meet rising demand, ensuring that no one is left behind.
“Trinity College Dublin and Spectrum.Life are taking the lead, because building a healthier Ireland starts with the professionals we train today.”
Ladislav Timulak, Ph.D., Professor in Counselling Psychology, and Course Director at the School of Psychology at Trinity College Dublin, added: “This partnership is an important addition in responding to Ireland’s mental health needs.
“With the support of Spectrum.Life, we are not just training students - we are building the frontline of Ireland’s future mental health workforce.
“But this is only the beginning.
“To truly bridge the gap, we must expand these collaborations, alongside the public health support, we need to be bringing more private sector leaders on board to drive lasting, systemic change.”
The programme has garnered significant interest, with over 200 applicants competing for a place in this year’s cohort.
Of the 14 places on the course per cohort, Spectrum.Life sponsors four (in addition to public health sponsorship that covers the remaining places).
Those trainees that have joined Spectrum.Life are set to gain diverse clinical experience across areas including neurodiversity, digital therapies for adults, and employment support over the next years.
This comprehensive training programme equips them to meet the evolving needs of individuals and organisations in a rapidly changing mental health landscape.
