Its scenery has wowed international cinema-goers, but Achill Island in Co. Mayo will need more infrastructure to cope with an expected surge in visitors this summer following the success of the Banshees of Inisherin, local tourism operators have said.
Earlier this week, the film received nine Oscar nominations - a record haul for an Irish production - including Best Picture, Best Director for Martin McDonagh, and Best Actor for Colin Farrell.
The success of the movie - filmed on Achill Island as well as the Aran island of Inis Mór - is expected to be a huge boost for local tourism.
Chris McCarthy, manager of Achill Tourism, commented: "There isn't a tourism organisation in the world that wouldn't like to be in our seat now".
However, Alan Gielty, who runs Achill Island Day Tours as well as Gielty's Bar and Restaurant on the island, said more needs to be done around Keem Bay, the location of the film's climactic ending.
He said: "Keem Bay is very busy because it has the only prop that is left, the house that was used in the Banshees of Inisherin.
"It needs investment. It needs to have designated parking and it needs to have a warden down there for traffic."
But Mr McCarthy said: "Any decisions made on the island will be made collectively with the least environmental impact we can. We've got to be mindful of that."
