Grafton Street department store Brown Thomas has joined in the Centenary commemorations with new window displays on the theme of ‘1916 meets 2016’
Each of the windows is fronted by large-scale black-and-white photographs of well-known figures from the 1916 period, including James Connolly, Thomas Clarke, Maud Gonne, Sean McDermott, Padraig Pearse, Muriel Gifford and Thomas McDonagh.
Through portholes, pedestrians can view visual installations that connect events of 1916 through to the present day. The design concept of the visual journey uses projection mapping techniques to merge past and present and is the brainchild of Algorithm, a Dublin creative agency.
The agency’s creative director Kevin Freeney commented: “Over the last few weeks, the creative team at Algorithm designed and installed a contemporary tapestry bridging the 1916 rising with modern Dublin. Using projection techniques and 3D animation, we showcase moments in time and glimpses from the past that complement the isometric patterns that spread across Brown Thomas' windows on Grafton Street.”
John Redmond, creative director of the Brown Thomas group, said: “We were really excited to invite Algorithm to take our windows and give a modern expression to the past 100 years. The challenge was one they embraced enthusiastically.”
Algorithm also do funky promo videos. Their effort for the 2016 Body & Soul music festival is below.
