Amazon will stop selling media-streaming devices from Apple and Google, focusing its attention on products that are more compatible with Amazon's video service.
This means Amazon will no longer stock the Apple TV or Google Chromcast because they do not interact well with Prime Video, which has become an integral part of Amazon Prime.
The product listings will be removed from Amazon by the end of the month.
However, the company will continue stocking PlayStation and Xbox, which are both compatible with Prime Video. Amazon also offers its own Fire TV stick, which plugs into HDMI ports to connects televisions with streaming services such as Netflix and Prime Video. The Fire TV stick has become the company's best-selling electronic device.
Subscribers to Amazon Prime, whichis not available in Ireland, shell out $99 (€89) per year for their memberships, which gain them access to video as well as cheaper, faster shipping. Prime has become an increasingly important aspect of Amazon — apparently worth the company's sacrifice of sales of popular brand name products.
